We Believe In Natural Products

Here at Curltivate we believe that your truest curl form comes from properly nourished hair, and that there is no better place than nature to source these ingredients.

Australia has some of the harshest and diverse weather conditions in the world, and our natural plants have adapted and been able to survive and flourish no matter what mother nature throws at them. This is where Curltivate has differentiated their products from others in the market. Using these powerhouse plants from all over Australia, (from the arid deserts to the rainforest and costal plains), as the Key nourishing ingredients, true curl nourishment is only a few steps away with Curltivate.

We want you to understand what you are putting on your body, so read on below to learn more about all the ingredients in our products and why we use them.

Other Ingredients

Knowing what ingredients are in your products can sometimes be frustrating and confusing. Big names that you cannot pronounce sometimes make us feel like it must be bad, right? But this is not actually true. A lot of the ingredient names listed on our products are scientific names, so let us clear some of that confusion up for you right here.
And hey, there is always a reason and a theory behind why we use what we use. No one thing is right or wrong, there is only what we understand and feel works for our hair, so please if you have anymore questions on what ingredients are used or why, get in contact with us and lets talk about it.

 Ingredients we use:

Australian Blue Cypress (Natural): Is said to have beneficial pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. We use it in our Cleanse (Gentle Shampoo) products as part of our trio of follicle stimulating, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and scalp soothing oils.
Benzoic Acid (Natural): This is a component of the preservative system we use in some of our products.
Behentrimonium Methosulfate and Cetearyl Alcohol (Naturally derived, but not all natural): Emulsifies and thickens our Hydrate (Conditioner) products. It also aids in static control and comb ability. This is what makes the conditioners creamy and detangling.
Caprylic Acid: This is derived from coconut or palm oil and forms the preservative system.
Capric Triglyerides: Derived from coconut oil and glycerin, it’s considered an excellent emollient and skin-replenishing ingredient. It’s included in some of our products due to its mix of fatty acids that can be used to help replenish the hairs surface and resist moisture loss.
Cetyl Stearyl Alcohol (Cetearyl): Is a blend of cetyl and stearyl fatty alcohols, and is used to add viscosity, and as a stabiliser in creams and lotions. Cetyl Stearyl Alcohol is also used as a co-emulsifier and imparts emollient feel and lubricity to the skin.
Dehydroxanthan Gum (Natural): This is part of what makes our Nourish (Styling Gel) products so superb at creating chunky, defined curls. It also re-activates really well with water, helping with second and third day refreshes.
Gluconolacctone (Natural): Derived from corn, this forms part of our preservative system.
Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (Naturally derived): This thickens our formulas and is very conditioning. It helps to leave hair silky soft.
Hydrolyzed Oats (Natural): Helps to thicken our formulas and adds moisture to the hair.
Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (Natural): A water soluble thickening agent for our products, without the tacky skin feel of other gums.
Lemon Myrtle Essential Oil (Natural): A potent antibacterial agent, also prized for its anti-fungal, anti-microbial, anti-spasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties. We use it in our Cleanse (Gentle Shampoo) products as part of our trio of follicle stimulating, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and scalp soothing oils.
Magnesium Sulfate (Natural): This is plain old Epsom salt you’d soak your tired muscles in. The magnesium is a powerful curl enhancer, which is why we use it in our Nourish (Styling Gel) products.
Maltodextrin / VP Copolymer (Naturally Derived): This is a naturally derived styling polymer that allows us to give the Nourish Gel a stronger hold without compromising the feel on the hair.
Nerolina Essential Oil (Natural): Soothing, refreshing and relaxing properties promote tranquility and calm in the mind and body. In addition, it’s thought to have anti-viral and anti-inflammatory abilities. We use it in our Cleanse (Gentle Shampoo) products as part of our trio of follicle stimulating, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and scalp soothing oils.
Panthenol (Natural): Pro-Vitamin B5. Adds moisture and sheen to the hair.
Phenoxyethanol (Not Natural):  This is what is known as a "Nature Identical" chemical. A preservative that is considered one of the least sensitising, and also does not release formaldehyde. It's approved worldwide (including in Japan and in the EU) for use in water-based cosmetics up to a 1% concentration.
Sodium Benzoate (Natural): Is the sodium salt of benzoic acid, and this forms part of our preservative system.
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate: (Not Natural and Natural)  Acts as a mild anionic surfactant. Offers conditioning and reduces greasiness. Provides rich, creamy foam to cleansing formulations with minimal impact on skin barriers to keep skin and scalp looking healthy and conditioned.
Sorbitol (Natural): Is produced from the sugar of wheat and corn, and this forms part of our preservative system.
Vegetable Glycerin (Natural): This is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into the hair shaft, resulting in much softer hair.
